IP.21 Replication Configuration

IP.21 Server and IP.21 gRPC Datasource

The AspenTech Inmation system can be used to replicate one InfoPlus.21 system to another InfoPlus.21 system.

The InfoPlus.21 system can only replicate to one replication target. If the source historian system is already replicating to a different system, the AspenTech Inmation IP.21 Server can not provide the replication functionality.

When setting up replication from multiple IP21 source system to a single IP21 destination, the RecordNamePrefix property should be used to generate global tag prefixes for each site. This is to mitigate the risk of tag name clashes if the same tag exists multiple times.

To configure InfoPlus.21 replication through the AspenTech Inmation system …

1 Install a Node running the IP.21 Server object on the Source IP.21 system and create the corresponding IP.21 Server object in the gSystem Model as described in IP.21 Server Installation & Basic Configuration.

2 On the Target IP.21 system, also install a Node running the IP.21 Server object following the same steps as for the Source IP.21 system.

3 For the target IP.21 system a Data Store Set is required.
To set this up …

1 In the System Model, select the Node running on the target system.

2 In the Object Lens expand the Data Store Configuration compound and click on the table icon for the Data Store Sets property.

3 Add a new row and in the Name column enter a unique string which identifies the Data Store Set as related to the target IP.21 system.

4 In the same row, expand the drop-down list in the Data Stores column and select the checkbox for the IP.21 Server object representing the target IP.21 system.

5 Click OK to close the table and Apply the changes to the Node’s properties.

4 Now the source IP.21 system can be connected to the newly created the Data Store Set.
To do this …

1 In the System Model, select the IP.21 Server object for the source IP.21 system.

2 In the Object Lens, expand the Replication compound.

3 From the drop-down list for the Replication Target property, select the Data Store Set configured previously.

5 Make sure that the Replication Queue Usage property is enabled in the Replication compound.

6 To start the replication, select the checkbox for the Replication > Enable Replication property of the IP.21 Server object representing the source IP.21 System and click Apply for the Object Lens.

Make sure to unselect the Enable Replication checkbox when you want to stop the replication.

Advanced Options

The Replication Queue Usage property in the Replication compound of the IP.21 Server object controls if this object can pop data from the IP.21 Replication Queue.

For the Replication feature to work, the IP.21 Server object for the source InfoPlus.21 system needs to have the Replication Queue Usage property enabled. The IP.21 Server object for the target InfoPlus.21 system can have this property disabled, so that the Replication Queue is not affected by it.

Also for the gRPC Server Use Case, the Replication Queue Usage property has to be enabled.

Replication Settings on the IP.21 System

For tags to be replicated they need to be marked for replication on the source IP.21 system. For information on how this is done see IP.21 System Configuration.

If a tag is deleted on the target IP.21 system, replication for this tag is disabled on the source IP.21 system.

If replication is enabled for some tags in the IP.21 System and the AspenTech Inmation IP.21 Server Service is not running on that machine anymore, then the overflow buffer of the IP.21 System will keep growing infinitely. Therefore, if the AspenTech Inmation IP.21 Server needs to be stopped for a longer period of time or needs to be uninstalled, then the administrator needs to stop replication on all tags in the IP.21 System.
