Installation and Basic Configuration

The IP.21 Server object and the Datasource IP.21 gRPC object are working hand in hand to bring data from the Aspen InfoPlus.21 system into the AspenTech Inmation system. This page addresses the installation and basic configuration for both objects and the Nodes on which they are executed.

IP.21 Server Setup

The IP.21 Server object is responsible for the communication with the IP.21 system and needs to be installed on a dedicated Node running on the same machine as the IP.21 system.

On the machine running the Aspen InfoPlus.21 system, install a Node following the instructions in the Object Guide for the Node object and connect it with the Admin Node, treating the Admin Node as the parent Node and the Node on the IP.21 host machine as the child Node.

For the IP.21 Server Object to be able to establish a connection with the IP.21 database, the Windows service of the Node hosting the IP.21 Server object needs to have the Log On account set to an account for which access to the IP.21 database has been granted.

With the new Node installed and connected to the Admin Node, create an IP.21 Server Object object on this Node, following the instructions in the IP.21 Server Object Guide.

Datasource IP.21 gRPC Setup

The Datasource IP.21 gRPC object translates the data for the system protocol. To minimize the load

By default, a secure connection between this Datasource and the IP.21 Server is used. For this to work, the Node on which the Datasource is installed also needs to have the Log On account set to an account for which access to the IP.21 database has been granted.

By default, a secure connection between this Datasource and the IP.21 Server is used. To be able to establish this secure connection, the Node service executing the the functionality of the Datasource IP.21 gRPC object needs to be configured to run under the same Log On account as the Node running the IP.21 Server object.

To do this, first install a Node on said machine following the instructions in the Object Guide for the Node object and connect it with the Admin Node, treating the Admin Node as the parent Node and the Node on the other machine as the child node.

Then, when the new Node is installed and connected to the Admin Node, the next steps are to connect WebStudio to the Admin Node, select the newly created Node object and create and set up the basic configuration for the Datasource IP.21 gRPC object following the instructions provided in the Object Guide.

  • The data transfer between the IP.21 Server object and the Datasource IP.21 gRPC object happens via a direct network connection between these two objects.

  • There is no typical Node-to-Node connection between the Node running on the IP.21 host machine and the Node hosting the Datasource IP.21 gRPC object.

  • The administration of both the Node running the IP.21 Server object and the Datasource IP.21 gRPC Node (and their child objects) happens via the individual Node-to-Node connections between each of theses Nodes and the Admin Node.

With the basic configuration for both the IP.21 Server and the Datasource IP.21 gRPC objects in place, continue with the use-case specific configuration for either the gRPC Server (importing data from IP.21 into the system) or the the IP.21 Replication (IP.21 to IP.21 via the system) use-case.
