Datasource Interfaces

The system offers a multitude of Datasource object types, each of them managing the connection to a specific server type or protocol, that provides data to be ingested into the system. For the most part these Datasource objects require minimal configuration with connections being possible with default parameters. These are known as Managed datasources as the client functionality and configuration is contained within the object itself. Datasources objects act as the clients, connecting to external systems/servers, representing them in the I/O Model.

This section contains more detailed configuration information for the interface types that require more involved setups involving specific system information, depending on the server type.

The term 'Unmanaged datasources' refers to any custom Lua logic that implements functionality to read data from any external source and process or store it within AspenTech Inmation OT DataFabric. In most cases these Lua scripts are executed on an object of a type with Lua execution capability. A typical example would be a Generic Item (or Action Item) executing an HTTP call to read data from an external Web API.
