Setting up a Sample Azure IoT Hub

This page addresses how to create a new Azure IoT Hub, which supports MQTT communications, and configure it.

Prerequisites

  • Azure account with a valid Azure subscription and all the necessary permissions to add and manage resources. There also should be at least one Resource Group. More information about Resource Groups is available on the official Microsoft Documentation webpage

Preparing Azure Infrastructure

1 Login to Azure Portal and click on the   Create a resource   button

2 Make sure you have the following parameters set using the suggested values or use the below screenshot as a guide:

3 On the Basics tab, enter a suitable value for the Name property. This will be used during the SAS Token Authentication so make a note of it. In this example the following name is used: inmationMqttTest

4 On the Size and Scale tab, for the Pricing and scale tier, select the desired option.
In this example the Free tier option is used which allows to send up to 8000 messages and therefore is sufficient for testing purposes.

  1. When finished, select the   Review + create   tab and then click   Create   and wait until the resource is deployed

In case of encountering any troubles, this official Microsoft Quickstart can be used as an alternative example of how to create a new IoT Hub
