Setting Up a Sample Azure Event Hub

This page illustrates how to set up an Azure Event Hub with Kafka support so that it can be used to follow the steps of the Azure Event Hub Connectivity guide.

To set up the Sample Azure Infrastructure a valid Azure subscription with all the necessary permissions to add and manage resources is required. There also should be at least one Resource Group. More information about Resource Groups is available on the official Microsoft Documentation webpage

To create a new Microsoft Azure Event Hub with Kafka support follow the steps below:

1 Log in to the Azure Portal.
Click on   Create a resource   button.

2 Find and add a new Event Hubs.

3 Make sure you have the following parameters set using the suggested values or use the screenshot on the right as a guide:

  • Name - This will be used during the configuration of the Cloud Sink object so make a note of it. In this example the following name was used: inmationKafkaTest.

  • Pricing tier - Standard

  • Enable Kafka - Checked

Kafka protocol is not supported in Basic pricing tier. Please refer to the official Microsoft Documentation webpage for additional information.

4 Click   Create   and wait until the resource is deployed.

5 When Event Hub is up and running, select it under   All Resources  .

6 Create a new Event Hub ( Event Hub Namespace  Event Hubs  + Event Hub ).

7 Give the object a name and make note of it (this will also be used in the configuration of the Cloud Sink object and as a Kafka Topic). In this example Event Hub will be named inhub.

8 Select the Event Hub Namespace object you just created and find the connection string to configure under the RootManageSharedAccessKey Policy in Event Hub Namespace  Shared access policies  RootManageSharedAccessKey  Connection string-primary key
It should be similar to this:

Endpoint=sb://inmationKafkaTest.servicebus.windows.net/;SharedAccessKeyName=RootManageSharedAccessKey;SharedAccessKey=cHJpbWFyeSBvciBzZWNvbmRhcnkga2V5Ow==

Make a note of it for later, when configuring the Cloud Sink object.

In case of encountering any troubles, this official Microsoft Quickstart can be used as an alternative example of how to create a new Event Hub
