Package Installation

This page describes how to install packages on remote Nodes .

For the purpose of this page, the Node to which the functionality of the package shall be added is called the Target Node.

Install the Package File

When a Node service is installed, also various packages are deployed, but not yet installed. Those packages can be found in the packages folder inside the system installation folder, for example in C:\Program Files\AspenTech\inmation.root.default\packages

  1. Copy the respective package .zip file to the system’s ProgramData \work\packages\received folder on the machine hosting the Target Node, for example

    C:\ProgramData\AspenTech\inmation.root.default\work\packages\received
  2. Take a note of the package name and package version as these will later be needed.

Raise the Privileges of the Node Service

By default, when a Node is installed, it is installed with restricted privileges, running on the Network Service account. For the Node service to be able to execute the package, its privileges need to be raised to the Local System account privileges. To do this,

  1. Log in to the host running the Node with administrator privileges.

  2. Start the Windows Services Manager.

  3. Find the AspenTech Inmation Node Service and, in the context menu, open the Properties.

  4. Open the Log On tab.

  5. For Log on as: select Local System account.

  6. Click OK

  7. Restart the service from the context menu.

Configure the Package in the System

  1. Connect WebStudio to the admin Node.

  2. In the System Model, select the Target Node.

  3. In the System Config App, open the Object Lens and select the Package Installer compound.

  4. Set the Package Name and Package Version properties according the notes you took when copying the package file to the target Node.

  5. If you intend to install more than one instance of the same package on the same Node, an individual Instance Name needs to be specified for each additional instance.

  6. Click Apply to apply the configuration changes.
Inside the system’s ProgramData folder on the machine hosting the Target Node this folder structure is created, containing the installed package: \work\packages\installed\<PACKAGE_NAME>.<INSTANCE_NAME>
